The latest in this series is Christmas themed and as hilarious as the rest. As with all the books in the series, Gilbert the Goblin is underwhelmed by other magical creatures. In this case, he just doesn't get what's so great about elves. He infiltrates Santa's Workshop to prove he's just as good as any elf. This is such a fun book. The snappy text is hilarious. The illustrations just add to the humor. A silly read aloud for any kid who loves a good giggle at Christmastime.2023-books1 Caroline1,129 14

Gilbert the goblin is back to tell us why another magical creature is actually the worst! This time, he sets out to challenge the elf-supremacy in the magical world. After all, is there anything that elves can do that a goblin cannot? He can bake cookies. He can wrap presents. He can make toys. But it turns out, elves are special not for all they do, but for how they work together.

Deeply humorous with lots of visual clues in each picture, this is sure to be a favorite new addition to the series -- just in time for Christmas.2023 christmas holidays ...more1 Kelly {SpaceOnTheBookcase]776 54

Elves Are The Worst is a cute children’s book about expectation versus reality. With themes of team work and not assuming, this is a smart and festive book for young readers. I really loved the overall message of acceptance.

The humor puts smiles not only on kids but will have adults smirking and chuckling as well.

Elves, especially Christmas elves, aren't nearly as amazing as everyone acts they are. Certainly not more impressive than a goblin. With carefully laid out evidence, this goblin reveals the truth behind elves...until it doesn't quite work out he hopes.

After exploring dragons, unicorns, and yetis, the author now tackles elves in the most delightful way. It's fun to see what evidence the goblin presents (and that always in a serious tone). Especially in this book, the play on real life examples was funny...and if that doesn't have kids smiling, the more slap-stick humor toward the end of the tale will. It's a balanced mix to pull in kids and even offer adults something along the way.

The illustrations are bright and bold, and weave right in to add even more on the humor end. The comparison between elves and goblins hits especially well...and blurs lines in all the right ways. The elves come across, even when being scrutinized by the goblin, at the end in a way, which does keep the dreams of Christmas alive, making this a great holiday read. It does, however, work for any time of year, too.

With the silliness, there are also warming messages. Not only does the goblin continue ( in the other books) his mistake of building himself up by trying to shove others done, but there's also a message surrounding the value of working together as well as one concerning the importance of gathering different perspectives to make things even better. In other words, it's a read worth picking up. I received a DRC and enjoyed every page.2 s YourBookishLife151

Get ready to get into the festive spirit with this fabulous kid’s book.

Good Lord, this book is fun and adorable. First off, the illustrations are bright and eye-catching. I love all the detail and thought Alex put into his illustrations. These little easter eggs are scattered throughout the book, which creates a great opportunity to talk about the pictures either individually or in a small group. There are cameos from characters from past books, little humorous quips (for both kids and adults), and so many other details that just draw you in.

The writing itself is fun and witty while being simple enough to ensure early readers can understand and enjoy the story. What I love about the writing is that it presents a great opportunity for those adults reading the book to add a lot of fun and big emotions into their speech. I always loved reading this kind of book in classrooms because I knew I could get the kiddos to laugh at what was happening in the book.

Elves Are The Worst! is a great book to read together during the holiday season.

In this fourth book in the ...Are the Worst series by Alex Willan, Gilbert is once again complaining about another creature. This time it's 'hardworking and so perfect' elves. Gilbert sets out to prove that he works just as hard and just as perfectly as elves do, but finds to his chagrin that maybe there's more to the elves great work than he thought. As in previous volumes, the clever text combines wonderfully with the cartoon-, appealing illustrations. In fact some of the most amusing parts show up in the illustrations such as Gilbert attempting to water his plant while the plant holds him upside down. And the kitty canes are just plain adorable. The references to well-known elves and not just Santa's elves provides a clever touch and made me laugh, kids will be delighted to identify them based on the clues given. In fact, there are so many clever touches the book is worth reading numerous times just to catch them all. A perfect combination of humor and art that touches on themes of teamwork and kindness.

Gilbert the Goblin is out to prove that elves are the worst and goblins are the harder workers. According to the little goblin, being better than elves is easily done in three steps and even though toys are gross, he's happy to demonstrate. However, Gilbert realizes very quickly that an elf's job isn't as easy as it looks. As he tries to surpass them, he understands why elves work so well and it's because they rely on each other.

ELVES ARE THE WORST is another silly addition to this popular children's book series that captures the Christmas spirit. The author teaches that things are sometimes more difficult when you try to do them on your own and teamwork is the key. I love how Gilbert learns a valuable lesson and how it shows that one is not better than another. The illustrations are vibrant with bold colors and adorable creatures and I love the Christmas theme.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to children aged four and up who enjoy stories with monsters and humor. It would make a great Christmas present that will bring a smile to their face.1 Ivonne Rovira2,088 219

Gilbert the Gnome is back, and he’s just as jealous as ever. The cranky gnome — overwhelmed by advertisements featuring elves everywhere in preparation for Christmas — has had enough. Why he could do their job better than they can! And he’s going to prove it, too, by sneaking into Santa’s Workshop and outdoing these elfin imposters.

Needless to say, things don’t go as planned, but readers can count on Alex Willan’s fourth foray into magical creatures being as magical and hilarious as the previous three. Five fat, fantastic stars!

A goblin is jealous of the Elves, so they are the worst. There are some funny moments, kids might miss some of them. The goblin tries to convince himself that he can work just as hard as an Elf, but it's not as easy as it looks to be a Santa Elf.

The artwork is colorful and fun. The message here is about teamwork.

I'm sure kids will love this one.2023 bage-children genre-beginner ...more12 s Jodie Powers281 1 follower

Well, this is adorable and hilarious. Gilbert the goblin is a little jealous of certain magical beings who get all the credit at Christmastime. So he heads to the North Pole to prove a point but instead he learns some lessons. The illustations are fantastic, my favorite being the candy cane kitties. Anthony6,151 30
