Beau and Kwan meet at a pivotal time in their respective lives. They connect on a visceral level, but can they dig deeper to find themselves, and the love they both deserve?

This is a tale of mental health battles, coming out, and finding self-acceptance and affection.

We as readers receive valuable insight into Beau’s thoughts and feelings as he navigates the difficulties with the present (Bernie, Megan, despondency) as well as his haunting past. The situation with Bernie does make for difficult reading; the storytelling is vivid and quite painful.

It’s enjoyable to see Ziggy and Marc return. They are excellent characters who contribute to the plot and are there to aid Beau throughout some of his most challenging tribulations.

As the plot develops, it’s endearing to see both main characters beginning to stand up for themselves.

When Kwan opens up to his sister about Beau, it’s not even eloquent as much as brutally authentic. He knows deep down how he feels, and it’s appreciated that he may not be able to express himself as neatly and comprehensively as he would to.

Altercations with Simon further underline an additionally under-explored theme—how difficult being beautiful can actually be. When you are incredibly good-looking, people don’t “see” you. They only see the surface you. This is articulated adeptly. We endlessly hear the benefits of “pretty privilege”; we rarely find any worthwhile exploration of the darker, ugly side of being disgustingly gorgeous.

At times, a cautionary story that explores the dangers of not taking care of our mental health. While Beau and Kwan are a couple the reader roots for, more on-page time as a couple would help to stick the landing.2022 dnr drama ...more68 s2 comments Rainbow Reviewss313 39

This is a tale of two guys falling in love. Beau, who is 23 years old, is a beautiful guy from the inside and outside. He struggles to stand on his own two feet in the world and endures a challenging life. Taking care of his sister, who is a drug addict, is his toughest challenge. He forces himself to make decisions that would significantly impact him in order to protect her. He will allow others to abuse him, including extortion and sexual assault. But eventually, he will have to put an end to everything and declare that enough is enough. Kwanchai, on the other hand, is an Asian man who aspires to become a successful K-pop star. The two guys’ lifestyles and differences from one another are pronounced. There is no turning back after they first encounter one another because something in their hearts ignites.

The story is written in the first-person narration style from the two main characters’ perspectives. The reader learns the innermost sentiments and thoughts of the two major characters, which helps the reader comprehend their points of view. Beau’s tale is the more dramatic and somber one of the two. Kwan’s role is more laid back until something occurs to one of his colleagues. I’ve never read anything by the author before, and I d her writing style. I appreciate how she maintained the characters’ sexual versatility, which is uncommon in this genre. I am aware that this is book two in the series, but you can read it as a standalone. Possibly soon, I’ll pick up the first one.

In my opinion, the lack of communication between the two protagonists did, in the middle of the book, lessen the impact of the story. Lack of communication and miscommunication in romance are tropes that usually do not go well with me. Fortunately, the story did not stay in that tone and moved on. Overall, this is a lovely romantic story with some hard subjects that might be triggering to some readers. So be sure to check the trigger warnings before you get into it. Yes, you will get your happy ending as well, if you were wondering about it.

Many thanks to the author/publisher and Booksirens for providing me with an advance reader copy of this book.

I admired Beau for his strength of character. Between his sister and Bernie ( ex boss), I don't know who I despised more!!! I cheered when he found the strength to cut toxicity from his life. I was thrilled when Kwan and Beau decided to pursue a relationship which wasn't easy and breezy, but they fought the obstacles to be together. Just when I was hopeful for Beau and his new job, my hopes were dashed. Then. Kwan is MIA!!!! This decimated me and I completely broke down and cried my eyes out. This boy couldn't catch a break! I was hoping to see some karma for Simon, but none!!!! * tears*
The epilogue was uplifting after all the pain!
