Release day post!

The Nameless One's story was equal parts fun and heartbreaking to write. The spy infiltrates the Demorran empire to send Aurienne needed information, but the cost is high. He discovers friends, purpose, and a chance at love. In the end he finds something he's not willing to lose and has to decide what he's willing to do to keep it.

While intended to be able to function as a standalone, it's set directly between the events of Book 1 and Book 2. It's a continuation of the Darkling Souls story, and gives a glimpse into the emperor's motivations, the might of the empire, and the magic surrounding them both. As the events of Book 2 unfold, the Nameless One's choices will have lasting consequences. If you're looking for romantic elements, spy missions, and shadow magic—this quick novella is for you!

The nameless one creeps around the empire, uncovering secrets with a partner who was forced upon him... yet he can't deny how her spark and chaos mesmerizes him. It's a story about how the actions of one individual can have huge consequences on the greater war, that perhaps others don't even realize. It reveals secrets about the magic and monsters lurking in the empire, and shows the devastating cost of every small victory.

"You can't defeat a shadow," he whispered.

Wow. That’s all I can think to say right now.

I absolutely LOVED The High Seer, which I would honestly recommend reading before this novella, HOWEVER if you don’t, you can still read this and understand everything, you’ll just have a better understanding of why the spy’s mission is so important.

But back to this novella. We really don’t know much about the spy coming into this book and I’d say we still don’t know a ton by the end, but my god, this dude really goes through it. There’s action, violence, betrayal, warring gods, magic, death, torture (, horrific torture), and more heartbreaking scenes than I can count. Alex Bree really takes your emotions on a full circle journey in this story. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but I hope later on down the line there’s a nice, big heaping pile of forgiveness after a very impossible situation.

This novella packs a massive punch and I can’t wait to see how the actions/consequences of this story affect the future of our High Seer and everything she has planned.

“The best spies remained nameless, faceless, until death.”

I absolutely loved reading The High Seer last year, so I was excited when I saw that a novella in that universe was coming out! I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it, but I wasn’t surprised that I loved it.

This novella is short, but it’s full of action, lore, and so much emotion. This story focuses on a character we know almost nothing about in The High Seer, but it quickly made me care about them and see how important they are.

If you’ve read The High Seer, definitely pick up this novella! If you haven’t, I 100% recommend you grab yourself a copy
