Overall, it was nice, but at the same time it ran too smooth- I would have appreciated a bit of conflict, actually.1 DC914 3
A mans journey of self-discovery and openess is a well-used trope and one that I normally enjoy, but this one didnt work for me. There were just too many things wrong.
Was there any proofreading and editing? There were far too many cringeworthy mistakes such as incorrect or missing words, duplicate phrasing within a sentence, and sometimes a jumble of confusing words.
Heavily within the first couple of chapters and then frequently thereafter, we are practically beat over the head with the fact that Nathan hates his hometown of Orbach and hasnt been back in ten years. He obviously loves his parents and brother, Frank, and left behind his best friend Art, with whom he reconnects. So it is never truly explained why he hates it so much? And where exactly is Orbach located, on another planet? It is so rural that the city is on the otherside of the country and when they had a snowstorm, Nathan had to wait a week for the planes to be on yet the streets were clear enough for them to walk across town and even go for a jog.
Once Nathan and Art reconnect and realize they are meant for eachother, Nathan starts agonizing over what to do because he has to leave and might never be back again (remember, he hates that town). And Art cant move because he has to take care of his mother, who never seems to be around in their cramped house.
And then miraculously in the epilogue, Nathan seems to realize that he is a highly paid football player, doesnt train and play all year, and actually s coming home to Orbach and the people he loves. It was also strange that other than Nathans brother Frank, Art was the only other character to interact with Nathan and was worthy of a name. Carrie1,009 25
I literally finished this a few hours and I can't remember enough about it to write a review. So for the fact I can't remember anything bad about it, it gets 3/5 stars because I also can't remember anything good about it. All I can remember is that Athlete Boy had always felt something was missing when he was with girls (a penis), and figures it out pretty quickly when he reconnects with Hometown Boy.american-football athletes contemporary ...more Marcy Shane549
Cute, short read. Melissa Brown7
Very cute
Well written with just enough personal angst. Could have used a little more details and Arts POV. For a short book though it is ok. Nic949 9
Short
This was a short story filled with self discovery and courage. Courage to make choices that are for the best interest. It was good for a short story. Michael Kutan31 2
