Jewish Regency Romance

In Just A Year is the fourth book in the Diamond Dynasty series. There is an overarching series plot and a huge cast of characters that would make this book more enjoyable if you’ve read the whole series. To get the full effect I recommend starting with the first series, Infiltrating the Ton, as the families are connected. The Diamond Dynasty series follows the Klonimus family as they navigate Regency London as the Crown appointed Crown Jewelers alongside their fellow Jewish friends, the Pearlers and Solomons.

Benjamin Klonimus, a fourth son, and Esther Solomon, a Rabbi’s third daughter, both feel stuck in their roles and always being seen as the children they used to be. Even though they’re both adults, they find themselves either being a governess to their younger siblings or the two of them in charge of watching siblings and nieces/nephews play. Ben and Esther have grown up together and of similar age when one day they both decide to take a chance to see if their feelings are reciprocated. As they find out they are and both share their sentiments it looks to be the beginning of their HEA. However, Ben wants to prove his value to his family and worth to Esther by doing his part in the global treasure hunt for their family heirloom gemstones. As the next leg of their hunt is set to India, Ben decides to join a family friend on his trading ship to India, a trip to India and back that would take a year. As Ben travels halfway around the world will he find what he’s looking for and be able to start his life with Esther?

I discovered this author last year and have enjoyed reading her slightly steamy stories from a Jewish perspective so I was excited to read this latest release. This was different from what I was expecting but in a good way. I was afraid this would mainly be letters exchanged between the two MC and while there are some, they are brief and help move their romance along from half a world away. Even though they declare their love early on, it’s not forced as you can see that they’ve spent their whole lives knowing one another and the shared attraction is there. Most of the story is about Ben’s growth and not Esther’s. She wants to be seen as a young woman and helps cement that by being steadfast in her love for Ben and help resolve a situation with the series recurring Anti-Semitic villain Mr. Nagy. The villain definitely does his best (worst?) to make their lives difficult and waiting for a mistake to be made. I enjoyed the history and culture throughout and felt it was incorporated well without feeling I was being lectured to.

There was half of an encounter plus one scene that was light touching and an off the page scene of heroine self pleasure. While low steam, they were written with detailed descriptions that made it slightly steamy. Mindy1,545 4

Just A Wonderful Beautiful Story!

Wow this Nagy character I’d to reach through my iPad and strangle!
