Sinopsis

Hawk’s Hollow, Colorado. 1894. Four young women with very different lives and very different dreams, except for one thing: they were chosen to be the Riders of the Apocalypse.

Penelope is on a quest to reconnect with the tribe that represents half her blood. Willow wants to win the cross-country horse race, even if it means pretending to be a man. Felicity longs to escape from the cage society has created around her. And Dynah is bound and determined to be Rodeo Queen if it kills her.

But when strange things begin happening to each of the young women, their personal agendas are derailed by a much bigger purpose. By the time they realize what their new powers mean and that the four of them have been chosen for a dark destiny, the apocalypse is nigh.

Because Hell hath no fury…

This is a first time read of this author and I enjoyed the book overall. The characters were well developed and brought great intrigue and interest. They held my interest and kept me wanting to read more. The storyline was interesting and I the mix of western and fantasy. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.2 s Sam Rose2

Not much goes on in the town of Hawk's Hollow outside the annual fair. Willow intends to shake things up by being the first woman to win the long distance race. Dynah, a shoe in for the Rodeo Queen of the fair, buts heads with her half-sister, Penelope, as she seeks answers regarding her native american roots and origins. Felicity, a musical virtuoso, struggles under the immense pressure her mother puts on her to fit in and be respectable as the town's only black family. However quiet this town of Hawk's Hollow is, a bolt of lightning bringing together these four women is about to make things a whole lot of loud.
Ok, let me ask this: Are you ready for a series about magic, the west, steampunk, and amazing leading ladies? Great, this is your series then. If you don't enjoy complex stories of women in patriarchal societies navigating different cross sections of identity, sex, and race...well, I'm afraid I can't help you there, and neither can Chamberlynn. A War of Daisies reads a western and is structured a high fantasy epic. The author unapologetically shows the darker, racist, misogynistic side of the old west, giving us a leading cast of women that provides expertly woven, multipolar character arcs.
While the thematic elements of the book are definitely to be applauded, especially in the current, salient political and social climate, Chamberlynn accomplishes well in other areas of her writing as well. The book reads with an easy, structured pace; her characters make choices that push the story forward in relatable and believable ways; and the attention to detail in descriptions and scenes.
In conclusion, Chamberlynn has gotten her series, The Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse, off to a gallup, and, based on the characters and stylistic choices of the author, I am confident in saying it's got the legs to keep readers happy for 3 more books.2 s ?RubHer?3 1 follower

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

'A War of Daisies' is the first book of the Four Horsewomen series and it is set in the 1890s the book introduces Penelope, Dynah, Felicity, and Willow, four young women that live in Hawk's Hollow a place where they somehow feel trapped by not being able to fulfill their dreams by not meeting the standards of society (or by being just different).

Penelope and Dynah are sisters but they cannot be more different one from another; Dynah is the rodeo queen and heartthrob of the town, she s to be number one and works very hard for it!! also the people really her.. but for Penelope, everything is different since she´s an outsider with a different father and tone of skin (she´s so pure that I can´t help but love her I mean she does nothing wrong and still everyone hates her :() and it doesn´t help that her mom pretends that her past doesn´t exist and that her stepfather diss her (I hate that man).

Willow well for starters Willows mom is an airship pilot and her father is an outlaw buttt she does not know him. She is a great horse rider that loves to run wild and fast and she's driven by her ambition and dreams and doesn't let that anyone's opinions stop her (which is why I love her) and this is where the rodeo's cross-country horse race enters!! she is interested in entering the competition but the problem is that the competition is only for men (something she plans to use in her favor you just have to read it to figure it out how)

Finally, we have my little precious Felicity my pure little angel who does everything her mother says to fit in even though she knows better and sees that no matter what they do or how rich they are the people will never fully accept them also she plays the harp and s to write stories when no one is looking.

Their lives will change after the registration day for the rodeo where inadvertently their destiny has been intertwined perhaps forever by being the only ones with the power to save the world.

I d the narrative of the book and that the four main characters y were different from each other also I d that their backgrounds were different and that they had to deal with them on their own (I'm not much of a fan of heroines relying completely on the hero to solve their problems)!! This is the first book I've read of this author and I enjoyed it, I also d how the author highlighted its flaws with real problems and that she mixed some modern aspects, this was an easy read and it was so well written (the descriptions, political problems, and well the story) that you as a reader feel that you are there and that everything that has happened to them has happened to you too, I truly can't wait to read the rest of the series.2 s DebbieReadsBooks2,510 42

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

There comes along, once in a rare while, a book that takes you out of your usual comfort zone, and it does it in such a way, you do NOT see it coming! This is such a book!

I read the blurb, it sounded interesting, but I really wasn't expecting to be blown away, and so much so, I was reading this book at 3.30am, cos I coulnd't put it down!

All four women have a say, and for their time, they have a LOT to say. They are all are feeling repressed and held down, for one reason or other, and it takes time for those reasons to fully become clear. Once all four are together in one place, a freak weather storm leaves them with powers, and those powers will get them what they what: freedom.

Freedom, however, comes at a price. And its that price, that TWIST that I did not see coming! I love being puddled along, you know? Taking my time, enjoying what I'm reading, a few questions lurking, but not really seeing where this is going, or that it'll be a 5 star read. And then BAM, right near the end, things become clear, many questions are answered, and then many MORE pop up. The four womens lives are drawn into a tighter circle, and their roles become a bit more solid, but still I'm not sure where this is gonna go!

Some things happened here that I did not see coming, and I loved being proven wrong about things, even if the reality on the page is far worse than I thought.

There is, apart from that bit I just mentioned, no romance in this book, but there is violence. The women are, afterall, War, Pestilence, Famine and Death. But it's not graphic, at all,but written in such a way that you don't see it coming at ya, not at first. When things become a little clearer, then you do see it coming, but again, written in such a great way!

It's been a long time since I tried to write a gushing review without giving anything away, but I think I managed it here. Had I gone into too much detail, I think the womens secrets would have been told, and you need to discover them in the pages of the book, I think, for you to fully appreciate them.

Written with all the words and customs and attitudes of the time (1894, United States) it throws up some *AH* moments and some *NOOOOOOOOOOO? really? they did that?* moments and some *oh my gosh, they did NOT!* moments, and I loved them all!

In case you didn't get it, I loved this book! I hope I can get my grubby mitts on the next one!

5 full and shiny stars

The Apocalypse is coming...

Willow, Penelope, Felicity and Dynah; four young women living in Hawk's Hollow, Colorado. From their different point of views we get to know them, bit by bit. This, together with the short chapters, makes it easy to read "just one more chapter". I also the diversity among the main characters: two are white, one is black, and one is half Native American. They also have very different personalities, which makes it easy to keep them apart.

This book takes place in 1894, a time when women often had their given roles, and I usually don't enjoy reading about submissive female characters. When these young women suddenly develop mysterious powers and begin to stand up for themselves... now, THAT I do enjoy!

One thing that bothered me was Willow's "transformation" to man. She's really not very good at behaving a man, and I found it rather unrealistic that most people were duped. But maybe they just saw what they were expecting to see?!

I received an ARC from the author and promised to give an honest review. I look forward to reading more about the four horsewomen of the Apocalypse!1 Donna713

A War Of Daisies is Book 1 in The Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse series by A.A. Chamberlynn. This is the first book I've read by this author and I will be watching for more. The world building (Hawk's Hollow, Colorado in the 1890s) is fabulous and the character development (Penelope, Willow, Felicity, and Dynah) is excellent. Will these four powerful women be able to break from the paths chosen for them and make their own decisions about the Apocalypse? This is a unique take on The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. This is a fast paced, well written, page turning thrill ride with twists/turns that keeps you glued to the pages until the end. Looking forward to the next book to see what the author has in store for these characters. SO SO GOOD!!1 sherri jones-teachout2,261 5

Four chosen. Four powerful women. Will they use their powers for good or evil?
Four women. Not treated equally by the men or older women in their lives. All want to escape their bonds and be what they want to be. But unbeknownst to them, they have been chosen by powerful beings to either eradicate humans and start over, or save them. But in order to save them some must die. It is their choice, and they either have to believe the demon or the angels. Or do they? Can they work together to make their own decisions as to what is best? I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

“A War of Daisies” by A.A. Chamberlynn is a brand-new take on the four horsemen of the apocalyptic myth, in a series featuring FMC and appropriate named “The Four Horsewomen”.

Set in the 1890s, in a steampunk version of Hawk Hollows, Colorado, the book introduces four FMC, each of them with diverse background and characteristics, who have been handpicked by the master of Hell to become the Riders of the Apocalypse.

Willow’s father is an outlaw, while her mother commands an airship. She has a somehow wild character, that finds escape into horse riding and dreaming about see the world, which brings her to the idea to enter (and win!) the rodeo tournament, ignoring the fact that women are not allowed to participate.

Felicity’s parent as wealthy merchants, determined to gain power and recognition in society, ignoring the fact that they would never be accepted due to their race. Felicity knows the truth and hides in the stable, with her journal and her music.

Penelope and Dynah are half-sisters, and as much opposite as they can be. Penelope is half-navajo, constantly bullied, with a step-father that can hardly bear her presence and a mother that chosen to ‘forget’ the past, while Dynah is revered by almost everyone.

The rodeo’s registration day becomes a crucible, the girls get caught together into a terrible storm, barely survive and continue their separate ways without a second thought…. But the storm was only the beginning of their calling….

A.A. Chamberlynn narrative skills are awesome, the plot flows through the pages taking the reader into a wild ride
